Episode 40 - Sonny
Sunday Jun 07, 2020
Sunday Jun 07, 2020
This week, we discuss Nic Cage's directorial debut: Sonny (2002). This incredibly difficult to find film follows the real James Franco as a male gigolo just trying to make his way through life in 1980's New Orleans. Listen this week as we cover what critics call "rock bottom cinema!"
We encourage you to educate yourself on the history of systemic racism and support the BLM movement in any way you can. We won't be mentioning it on this Nicolas Cage podcast, but we feel actions can speak louder than words.

Episode 41 - Adaptation.
Monday Jun 15, 2020
Monday Jun 15, 2020
This week, Nic Cage plays two roles in one movie - what a treat! We're back from a long weekend of puppy sitting to bring you a deep dive into the movie Adaptation. (2002) starring Nic Cage, Meryl Streep, Chris Cooper, Judy Greer, Brian Cox, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Nic Cage. This was a genuinely good movie, so give it a listen and, honestly, give it a watch. Short description this week. Does anybody read these things anyway?
Repost - there was a typo in the title :)

Episode 42 - Matchstick Men
Monday Jun 22, 2020
Monday Jun 22, 2020
Gather 'round boys and girls and listen to Hanna and Steve discuss another solid movie, Matchstick Men (2003). It's a movie about Nic Cage as a father...isn't it amazing when these movies line up with the appropriate holidays? PS - Do you want to make our podcast into a fun drinking game? Drink every time Steve says "ya know" or "kind of." Yeah, editing this week was brutal - I also left out a lot of weird stories about how Steve hates chatty cashiers and Hanna's struggles to come up with an idea for National Treasure next week. Enjoy, friends!

Sunday Jul 05, 2020
Whoa!!!!!!! GET PUMPED!!!! WE Freaking DID it!!! We made it to the best-known Nic Cage movie and, boy oh boy do we have a lot to share. First, check out this standard episode where we do a bit of deep dive into the background & facts on National Treasure (2004). We don't go through scene by scene as we usually do...because literally everyone's seen this movie. In lieu of that, we filmed a shot for shot remake of the trailer for your viewing pleasure. Check out @IKnowWhyTheNickCagedBirdSings on Instagram for the video. We ALSO recorded our first full length commentary as a bonus episode! Listen to it while you watch the movie or listen to it by itself - whatever floats your Charlotte. 2+ hours of content for you, our incredible fans. We genuinely had LOADS of fun filming and recording this week, so please enjoy...as long as it doesn't affect the status quo!

Episode 44 - Lord of War
Tuesday Jul 14, 2020
Tuesday Jul 14, 2020
Apologies for the slight delay, folks! This week Hanna and Steve take a look at the 2005 film Lord of War starring Nicolas Cage (of course), Ethan Hawke (shoutout Hawkeyes), and Jared Leto (ew). This is an average movie that we had above average amounts of fun talking about, so do give us a listen. As a bonus, listen to the pain in Hanna's voice as she deals with cheese-related tummy issues!! #SmallPotatoes

Episode 45 - The Weather Man
Sunday Jul 19, 2020
Sunday Jul 19, 2020
His hair! We went this whole dang podcast and failed to mention Nicolas Cage's horrid hair in the best movie you've never seen - The Weather Man (2005). It's definitely a wig right? It's so wispy on the top and doesn't match his face. Enough about wigs, Hanna and Steve break down the themes and recap some of the best lines of this movie. We get a little deep as we chat about camel toes, Nic dressed like Abraham Lincoln, and being hit in the face with fast food. Enjoy this episode and watch this movie!

Episode 46 - The Ant Bully
Sunday Jul 26, 2020
Sunday Jul 26, 2020
Y'all remember 1998? When A Bug's Life and Antz, two movies about ants and bugs, came out in the same year? Well, one year later, some dude tried to ride that pop-culture-cash-train with a book about ants. Then, seven years after that, Tom Hanks said "What if we made that book into a Jimmy-Neutron-style movie? People f*ckin' LOVE ants - we'll make millions!" They didn't. The movie is The Ant Bully (2006), and Nic Cage plays a wizard-ant named Zoc...sigh...This movie stinks to the high heavens. Enjoy listening to us talk about it, so you never have to watch this white-hot garbage of a movie.

Episode 47 - World Trade Center
Sunday Aug 02, 2020
Sunday Aug 02, 2020
Hi friends, this may be the most serious we ever get on this podcast. That doesn't mean it's boring, though, so give us a listen and you may just learn something (we sure did watching this movie). Hanna points out some cool stuff about the making-of World Trade Center (2006), and Steve points out some interesting artistic choices. The movie tells the story of some of the few who survived the attacks almost 19 years ago. Thank you for listening!

You bitches! You BITCHES! Don't watch this movie! BAD MOVIE! You'll all hate it! And you'd do it for nothing! Casting Nicolas Cage in The Wicker Man (2006) won't save this goddam movie! Ahhhhhh....uhhhh...I don't get it...I'm not one of you! I don't like this movie! I don't like it ironically! Ahhhhhh...ahhhahaha ooooh god uhuhuh ooooh god...No don't @ me! Ahhhhh What is it? What is it? What? What? What is that? What is that? What is it? OH NO, NOT THE BEES!!! NOT THE BEES!!!! AHHHHHH!!!
